Release Tension, Reduce Pain
Acupuncture & Dry Needling
Tight muscles, stubborn knots, and chronic pain don't always respond to stretching and massage alone. At Port Credit Physio & Rehab, our registered physiotherapists use acupuncture and dry needling as part of your treatment plan to reduce pain, release muscle tension, and help you move better. All needling is performed by physiotherapists trained and rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario to perform acupuncture and dry needling.
Benefits of Acupuncture & Dry Needling
Reduces pain and muscle tension
Needling can calm overactive muscles and ease the nervous system's pain response.
Improves range of motion
Releasing tight bands of muscle often restores movement that pain has been limiting.
Drug-free and minimally invasive
No medication, and treatment is done right in the clinic.
Works alongside your other care
Needling is combined with exercise and hands-on physiotherapy for longer-lasting results, not used alone.

What to Expect
Your physiotherapist assesses you and explains the treatment before starting
You may feel a brief pinch as the needle goes in, or a dull ache or muscle twitch during dry needling — both are a normal response
Mild soreness or small bruises afterwards are common and usually fade within a day or two
Who Shouldn't Have Needling?
Let your physiotherapist know before your session if you:
- Are pregnant
- Take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder

Acupuncture & Dry Needling FAQs
Does it hurt?
Most people feel only a small pinch. During dry needling, a brief muscle twitch or ache is normal and usually means the needle has reached the tight spot.
Is it safe?
When performed by a trained, registered physiotherapist using sterile, single-use needles, serious side effects are rare. Your physiotherapist will review your health history and any risks with you first.
Is it covered by insurance?
When provided by a registered physiotherapist, acupuncture and dry needling are often covered under your physiotherapy benefits. Some plans list acupuncture separately, so it's worth checking your coverage.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with Port Credit Physio & Rehab.
